KQXY is a Top 40/Hot AC Station in Beaumont, Texas. It serves the entire Golden Triangle and their slogan is "Today's Best Music". The station is best known for having a lot of variety, consisting of Top 40, Hot AC, Pop, Rock, and Dance. The largest competitor is KKMY, known for playing adult contemporary music and is often referred to as "Beaumont's Girly Station". Another competitor is Big Dog 106, playing mostly Hard Rock and a slight mixture of Alternative.
During the '70s and '80s, KQXY was "The Beautiful Q," the Golden Triangle's easy listening station. In the late '80s, it moved toward mainstream adult contemporary as Y94, then toward Hot AC under several names before adopting its current CHR direction.

[edit] Large Frequency
Although the station is only broadcasted to the main areas of Beaumont and Port Arthur, listeners confirm being able to pick up the station on a regular car radio as far north as Lufkin and as far West as Houston. They also call themselves "The biggest variety in Southeast Texas" because of this.
[edit] Ratings and Popularity
The Golden Triangle has a relatively small Radio market. There are only 7 mainstream radio stations, and Q94 ranks number one. The second station with the largest ratings is Big Dog 106, which indeed broadcasts to all of Southeast Texas on purpose, instead of on accident like Q94.
[edit] Variety and Music Programs
The station rarely plays hard rap music, although it does play a lot of Hip Hop. The main music the station plays is Top 40, although they play many different types of music. Q94 plays a lot of 80's. The lunch hour, unlike most other Top 40 stations, plays oldies music instead of all request songs. Also, on Friday night, Q94 plays a radio program from 6PM-Midnight live from an 80's club in Downtown Beaumont.
