Kovač

Kovač (Ковач), meaning "forger" (or "blacksmith") in Slavic languages, is a common Slavic surname in Croatia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia. The Polish equivalent is Kowal. It is a cognate to English name Smith.
There are approximately 9,500 people with this surname in Croatia, most of them living in northern and eastern parts of the country. Kovač is a relatively frequent surname also in Romania and Slovakia.
