[edit] Update
Per a suggestion by Appleby, I have updated this template using parser functions so that it can fill the role of all of the Korean ruler templates now in use. -- Visviva 08:25, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Syntax
The full range of fields currently available are:
{{koreanruler| title=| image=| hangul=| hanja=| rr=| mr=| hangulpost=| hanjapost=| rrpost=| mrpost=| hangulb=| hanjab=| rrb=| mrb=| hangula=| hanjaa=| rra=| mra=| hangulja=| hanjaja=| rrja=| mrja=| hangulho=| hanjaho=| rrho=| mrho=| temple=| yob=| yod=| }}
All fields are optional, but you must supply hangul in order for a given set of names to display. The "title" field defaults to the page name.
The first set of fields (hangul, hanja, rr, mr) is for the ruler's temple name, which is the title by which most Korean rulers are known. The second set (hangulb, etc.) is for the ruler's birth name; in some cases, this is the only name we know. The third set (hangulja, etc.) is for the ruler's courtesy name, which is known for most rulers beginning in the late Silla period. The fourth set (hangulho, etc.) is for the ruler's pen name, which some rulers have and some do not.
In cases where only one name is known, and it is not clear whether it is a birth name, temple name, or something else, this template should not be used. Please use Template:Koreanname instead.
More fields could be added. Please post any suggestions below. -- Visviva 01:06, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Update: I have added fields for the amyeong (childhood name, 아명) and siho (posthumous name, 시호). I have also added an auto-caption and YOB/YOD categorization feature for those articles that might want to use it. -- Visviva 01:09, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Also, I have turned off the bar that says "temple name," since many earlier rulers did not have true temple names, and in some cases it is not even clear what the nature of their primary name was. This can be turned back on by setting "temple=yes" (or any non-whitespace value). Thanks to User:Goguryeo for raising this issue, which I hope has now been resolved. Cheers, -- Visviva 01:23, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
