[edit] History
The Korean Ministry of Education opened KIS on 27 February 1999 as a private school under the leadership of Mrs. Soon Il Chung. KIS opened kindergarten through 6th grade on August 21, 2000. Grade 7 and 8 was formed in 2001-02. Grades 9-12 were added in 2002-2006. The main goal for KIS is to earn its reputation among students, parents, and the international education community as a premier academy, first in Asia and, in then, throughout the world. Their mission statement is to inspire students with a passion for learning and to cultivate the competence, self-assurance, initiative, and creativity necessary for success in the global community.
[edit] Building
There are three buildings - the elementary school building, middle school building, and the high school building. These buildings are connected in B1, F1, and F3.
The location of this school has changed to Bundang, South Korea.
[edit] English Only Policy
Students in KIS are forbidden to speak Korean. The teachers and staff believe that student use of the English language throughout the day will enhance their ability to speak effectively in a variety of settings and prepare them appropriately for their future. The "Use of English Language" is evaluated by the students and a score will be assigned to each student quarterly. These scores are placed on student's report card and transcript. If a student gets caught speaking Korean, they receive checks, which will be recorded by building level principal. Also, too many checks can deprive students of receiving academic awards.
[edit] Student Council
Many officers have responsibilities to handle throughout the year. For instance, Mark Kim, KIS middle school president has to lead the meeting. Also, the secretary Lydia Ahn takes notes to notify the members of student council about previous topics we talked about. Vivian Lee takes an important role in the student council as well; she organizes the music for the school events. The eight grade class representatives are Ryan Lee, Hanna Kim, Susan Park, and Andrew Kim. The seventh grade class representatives are Hyun Kim, Jinna Pak, Eddie Min, and Elizabeth Kim. The sixth grade class representatives are Ian Chang, Clare Ham, Janice Kim, and Stephanie Kim. The adviser of the student council is Ms. Rosen. The student council is also in charge of school activities, such as socials and lock-ins.
