From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional Warhammer 40,000 universe Kor Phaeron was the most trusted champion of Lorgar, Primarch of the Word Bearers legion. He was Lorgar's spiritual advisor on his homeworld on Colchis, and eventually rose through the ranks of the Chaplaincy and became Lorgar's second in command; Captain of the first company.

[edit] Beginnings On Colchis
Colchis was once a technologically advanced world, one of the first to be colonised by the Human Race. However, it fell into a fuedal state during the turbulent Age of Strife, and a religious group named the Covenant appeared, claiming a religious leader would one day come to deliver them from the chaos their world had become. The Covenant's strict dogma became a gigantic, monolithic belief structure that permeated every facet of daily life on Colchis.
Lorgar was taken in by the Covenant, and soon became their leader. One day he had a vision of a great warrior coming from the sky in a huge fireball, who would save the people of Colchis. Kor Phaeron urged Lorgar into preaching that their messiah was coming soon. Kor Phaeron was power hungry and ambitious. His ambition for power had led him to Lorgar, for he could see he could manipulate Lorgar into doing anything he wanted. Eventually, other Covenant priests became jealous of Lorgar's new found popularity, and deemed him a heretic.
[edit] War On Colchis
Lorgar's enemies entered his temple to arrest him and have him executed. However, they could not stand up against a primarch. Lorgar slew the priests, starting a planetary war of horrific proportions. Two factions formed, and soon the entire world was taking sides. Kor Phaeron was Lorgar's spiritual advisor throughout the six year war, lending him strength when he needed it. Eventually the forces of Lorgar stormed the Covenant temple and left none alive.
[edit] The divine being cometh...
Less than a year after the final battle, a great star ship descended to the temple in a blaze of fire. From out of the ship came two huge men; one in shining gold armour and the other with a single, unblinking eye; and two squads of Thousand Sons Space Marines. Lorgar immediately recognised The Emperor, and knelt before his new master. The people of Colchis rejoiced under their glorious new leader and every facet of the Covenant belief structure was devoted to the worship of the Emperor. The celebrations lasted for many months, which the Emperor frowned upon, wishing to resume the Great Crusade as quickly as possible. The Emperor gave Lorgar command of the Word Bearers legion, and told him to choose his finest warriors to join him as his trusted lieutenants. Obviously, he immediately chose his closest ally, Kor Phaeron, who was pleased with his new powers as a Space Marine.
[edit] The Great Crusade
Upon his elevation to Space Marine, Kor Phaeron became Lorgar's second in command and Captain of the First Company. Kor Phaeron's zeal and devotion was second only to Lorgar's and so it was inevitable he would be picked out for Chaplaincy. The speed at which he rose through the many echelons of chaplainhood showed his complete devotion to the Emperor. The warriors he led fought with unmatched ferocity and zeal.
[edit] Slow and steady
The progress of the Word Bearers was slow but complete. They would annihilate entire systems for not swearing fealty to the Emperor, which was a costly and time consuming process. The Emperor noticed the Legion's slow advance, and reprimanded Lorgar, informing him that his purpose was for battle, not worship. Lorgar took this to heart, and brooded in his quarters for a month, not talking to anyone except Kor Phaeron. He told Lorgar he knew of beings that welcomed zealous faith. He whispered in his ear of how the Emperor had betrayed him, and that the Dark Gods of Chaos turned none away.
[edit] Betrayal
With Lorgar's new found loyalties, he appointed Kor Phaeron Master of the Faith and began the process of contaminating the entire legion. Even the chaplains, sworn upholders of the Emperor's faith, were swayed by Kor Phaeron's promises of immortality. The Master of Mankind did not remain ignorant of Lorgar's reaction. He was about to once again reprimand His tardy son when the Word Bearers advance suddenly continued at full speed. Pleased with what He saw, the Emperor turned His attentions to other matters. What the Emperor did not know, however, was that the worlds being assimilated by the Word Bearers were not in His name.
[edit] The Horus Heresy
At first, the Word Bearers kept their new found loyalty secret, until the Sons of Horus openly rebelled and the Word Bearers became the second legion to spit on their oaths of fealty. Kor Phaeron was entrusted to lead the attack on the Ultramarines, the legion the Word Bearers despised above all others. The Sons of Guilliman were stunned by this sudden attack, and so were pushed all the way back to Ultramar, the Ultramarines home sector. The final battle was fought upon Calth, a world famed for its orbital shipyards. Calth's three sister planets were ripped apart in fierce geo-nuclear strikes, which also laced the systems sun with deadly radiation, increasing the output of harmful rays ten-fold. Upon the world of Calth, the Word Bearers fought the Ultramarines to a standstill. The Word Bearers used all manner of foul daemons and cultists as both shock troops and shields, which disgusted the noble warriors of Ultramar. Kor Phaeron's forces were eventually driven back by reinforcements from Macragge. Kor Phaeron was pushed to the Maelstrom, a region of space where the warp seeps through like a soporific sore. Horus' forces were also defeated and, along with Lorgar and the other traitor Primarchs, fled to the Eye of Terror, an unnatural warp hole in space.
[edit] The Maelstrom
Kor Phaeron claimed the Forge world Ghalmek as his base of operations, where to this day he leads his forces in their campaign of evil.....
