Konjikido temple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Konjikido (金色堂) is a Buddhist temple in Japan with the mummy of Fujiwara no Hidehira. It is also the training grounds of the samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and his accomplice Benkei. After the Genpei war, Yoshitsune and Benkei were forced to retreat to Hiraizumi, the closest city to Konjikido temple, where Yoshitsune was forced to commit seppuku, or ritualistic suicide and Benkei died in battle.
