Kolyuchinskaya Bay

Kolyuchinskaya Bay (Russian: Колючинская губа) is a bay in the Chukchi Sea at the northern shore of the Chukotka Peninsula, Russia. The length of the bay is 100 km. The width at its mouth is 2.8 km (increasing to 37 km as it goes inland). The depth of the bay is 7 to 14 m. Kolyuchinskaya Bay is covered with ice most of the year.
In 1793, the bay was named Count Bezborodko Bay in honor of a Russian statesman Alexander Bezborodko. The locals could not get accustomed to this name and the bay was later renamed Kolyuchinskaya after the Kolyuchin Island.
