Kolsås is the end station of Kolsåsbanen on the Oslo T-bane system. The station comes after Hauger, and is located 17.3 km from the central station Stortinget. It is located in the Bærum municipality. As of July 1, 2006 the station along with most of Kolsåsbanen is closed for maintenance, and the exact future of the line outside Oslo's boundaries is uncertain. The station was also closed for over a year between July 1 2003 and November 22 2004.[1]
The station and line into Bærum was originally not built as a metro line but as a tram line called Bærumsbanen. The station opened January 1, 1930. It was not until 1942 when the line became part of the heavier metro network.[2] The station retains a turning loop for trams which can only run forwards.
The station is the one closest to the military base Kolsås leir, which was a former base for NATO.
