"Kolley Kibber" was an alias adopted by Fred Hale, a gangster. In a turn of events inspired by Lobby Lud, Kibber returned to Brighton in order to participate in a newspaper promotion. He was then murdered by Pinkie Brown, catalyzing the plot of Brighton Rock.

In the film version of the novel, starring Richard Attenbourgh, the name is changed to Kolly Kibber. The name was accidentally misspelt by the prop team who were a bunch of fresh faced youngsters on work experience.
