Koç Holding A.Ş. is the top industrial conglomerate in Turkey. The Koç family, Turkey's wealthiest dynasty, controls the company with its headquarter in Nakkaştepe, Istanbul. Vehbi Koç, who established his first firm in 1926, collected all of the companies bearing his name under the roof of Koç Holding on November 20, 1963 in order to centrally manage these companies and to provide optimum source allocation.

Koç Holding operates in the automotive, durable goods, food, retailing, energy, financial services, tourism, construction and IT industries. The Holding serves the group as the decision making body in charge of identifying strategies and controlling, coordinating and providing direction to its activities. The Holding also formed a unit for long-term business planning in order to align business decisions with national development plans.

The shares of 14 Koç Group companies are traded at the Istanbul Stock Exchange and the Group has consolidated 106 companies, 62,000 employees and 12,000 dealers as well as agencies and after-sales services.

Koç Holding, previously located in Fındıklı, Istanbul, moved to its new headquarters on September 12, 1988 and continues its activities at its present location in Nakkaştepe on the Anatolian part of Istanbul.

Vehbi Koç, a firm believer in the corporate spirit, handed his position as chairman of the board over to his son Rahmi M. Koç in 1984. Rahmi Koç retired on April 4, 2003 and handed his position over to his eldest son Mustafa V. Koç.

Rahmi Koç is still honorary chairman and a member of the board of directors. Currently, Holding’s CEO is F. Bülend Özaydınlı.

[edit] Recent activities

Koç Holding started the year, 2006 with a gigantic move. During the spree of privatizations, Koc Holding acquired TUPRAS, the largest company in Turkey according to ISO report of 2005. TUPRAS has investments in the area of oil distillation, exploration and transportation.

Koc Holding also bought Yapı Kredi Bankasi, previously belonging to Çukurova Holding, a leading conglomerate which was recently confisticated by BDDK (Turkish Board of Banking Regulations) for lacking the needed financial structure. Kocbank branches are being transformed into Yapı Kredi and a colossal advertising campaign is underway.
