Knut Ekwall

Born 3 April 1843 in Saby (province Småland), Sweden; Died 4 April 1912 in Saby (province Småland) was a Swedish painter. Knut Ekvall studied from 1860-1866 at the academy of arts in Stockholm, with emphasis on xylography (designing woodcut printing blocks) and drawing. Ekvall became a pupil in Berlin of the painter Ludwig Knaus. Knut Ekwall established himself as an artist in 1870 in Munich Germany and worked later in Leipzig Germany. His works during this period were primarily for magazine illustrations (which were reproduced as engravings). Knut Ekwall returned to Sweden, and died there at the age of 69.
