Knotty Ash

Knotty Ash is an area of Liverpool and a Liverpool City Council Ward. It derived its name from a gnarled ash tree, and was made famous in the United Kingdom by the stand-up comedian Ken Dodd.

In 2004, a new Ash tree was planted close to the site of the original (outside the Knotty Ash pub) by its most famous resident Mr Ken Dodd.

Knotty Ash is mentioned in the lyrics of the Song Liverpool Lullaby by Cilla Black.
