Knocknaheeney

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Knocknaheeney (Irish: Cnoc na hAoine, Friday's hill) is an area in the north side of Cork and is home to a large community of families. It consists mainly of small colourful detached and terraced houses.

Knocknaheeney was once a notoriously rough area of Cork. In 2001 there were numerous incidents of vandalism of cars and buses. As a result, Bus Éireann had to suspend the service to Knocknaheeney for some time until the issue was resolved.

Since the economic boom of the last few years the area has had increased employment and education and is slowly losing its rough image since behaviour associated with this area is now common in much other areas including the very well off suburb of Glanmire, as highlighted on a recent RTÉ show, Prime Time.
