Knocknagree

Knocknagree (Irish: Cnoc na gree (the hill of the hare), is located in the North-West of County Cork in the Republic of Ireland. It is approximately one mile from the County Cork-County Kerry border, and looks south towards the Blackwater River.
The village has in 2004-2005 seen extensive redevelopment on the "Fairfield" or Village Green and a huge debt of gratitude is due to our local County Council engineer Mr. Martin Corcoran. Before the advent of the modern cattle-mart it was the venue of one of the largest livestock markets in Munster. The monthly "fair " as it was known died out in the 1970's. The village has a claim to fame that the Temperance Society would not be proud of. In the 1950's there were about 50 households in total, of these more than 40 had liquor licenses. About 6 were regular bars that kept normal hours, but a fair days they all opened for business. The village is on the southern perimeter of Sliabh Luachra ( rush mountain ), one of the few remaining bastions of traditional Irish fiddle music.
