Knightmare is a 1986 MSX computer game. The player is a knight, who has to fight his way through several levels.
Knightmare was an innovative game on the MSX system. The upward scrolling game became very popular. The top-view graphics were very sophisticated and a style quantum leap on the MSX platform similar to Nemesis and Penguin Adventure. The graphics required a Texas Instruments TMS9918 aware artist. The enemies (notably the bats) had additional shadow sprites adding flair (being placed at a vertical offset, this did not add further pressure on the max-4-sprites-per-scanline limit of the TMS9918).
[edit] Conversions
Knightmare has been converted for i-mode enabled cellphones in 2003, by Konami itself.
The game is also found in the compilation Konami Antiques MSX Collection for Saturn and PlayStation.
