Klyuchi, Kamchatka Oblast

Klyuchi (Russian: Ключи́) is a settlement in Kamchatka Oblast, Russia, situated on the Kamchatka River, 30 km to the north of Klyuchevskaya Sopka. Population: 7,073 (2002 Census); 11,251 (1989 Census).
It was founded in 1731. In 1951, it was granted urban-type settlement status and in 1979—town status. In 2004, it was demoted to a settlement [1] in order to become eligible for increased funding from the Russian federal budget.
Klyuchi, being in a very isolated part of the Soviet Union, has been near an ICBM testing range since the Cold War, the Kura Test Range, and is served by Klyuchi air base.
