Kliph Scurlock

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kliph Scurlock (born June 16, 1973) is the current drummer for the alternative rock band The Flaming Lips. Scurlock is a native of Topeka, Kansas. He played in many bands throughout his youth in Lawrence and Topeka.[citation needed]

On July 17, 1981, Scurlock's mother Linda was killed in the Kansas City Hyatt Regency walkway collapse. She was playing in an all-female mariachi band called Mariachi Estrella when a large walkway collapsed, killing 114 others and wounding over 200.

In 1999, Scurlock was taken on as a roadie for the Flaming Lips while they toured to support their album The Soft Bulletin. He remained with them on their next tour while they served as Beck's backing band. Scurlock was chosen to drum on that tour by default as Beck didn't show up to the auditions to make the decision.[citation needed] He then became the Flaming Lips' touring drummer since multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd had moved on to playing guitar and keyboards live.

He is credited on the 2003 Fight Test EP.
