Klein Independent School District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klein Independent School District is a school district that serves unincorporated portions of northern Harris County, Texas (USA).

Klein ISD includes the communities of Klein, Kohrville, North Houston, Greenwood Forest, and Woods of Wimbledon. Some areas with Spring postal designations are also served by the district. Some areas outside of the Houston city limits considered to be in the "Acres Homes" area are served by KISD.

Originally named Rural High School District No. 1 in July 1928. It became known as the Klein Independent School District in February 1938. It was named for Adam Klein who led many German immigrants into the area. Adam Klein settled the area in 1849. By Board Policy, all senior high schools will include the name "Klein" as the first word.

Klein ISD covers 87.5 square miles of land.

Approximately 41,300 students are enrolled in the Klein School District.

Klein ISD is part of the taxation base for North Harris Montgomery Community College District.

In 2005, KISD enrolled evacuees from the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina who were residing in northwest Harris County. The Spring Tabernacle shelter is within KISD boundaries.
