It is owned by Blu Ventures a Fort Myers, Florida based technology, media, and entertianment company which also owns internet radio site radioio.com. KLBUs' unique format is also streamed on the internet as well from its website.

Music Format

The music format on Blu 102.9 is unlike any other on American terrestrial radio. Nearly all of the music played on Blu is electronic with a bit more energy than songs heard on a smooth jazz radio station which Blu and Chill music in general are sometimes compared. Many of the songs are instrumental but there are also some vocal tracks as well. Other songs may only feature vocal sound samples. Some of the music can also be described as "trippy" with roots in acid jazz and trip hop, other songs have roots in Brazilian bossa nova and other world sounds. The station also features a broadcast from influential British DJ Gilles Peterson from his BBC broadcast of "Gilles Peterson Worldwide" on Sunday and Wednesday nights. Also featured is "The Blu Room" broadcast live from a local night club allowing for local and international mix DJ's to play their mix live on the air on Friday nights. Chill is also featured on Sirius and XM Satellite Radio and is also heard evenings on San Diego alternative station KBZT-FM and Indie 103.1 KDLD/KDLE Los Angeles but they are not quite the same as KLBU.
