Klaus Allofs

Klaus Allofs (born December 5, 1956 in Düsseldorf) was a German footballer, and, since July 13, 1999 has been the general manager of Werder Bremen. His brother Thomas was also a professional footballer.

[edit] Playing career

Allofs began his playing career at home team TuS Gerresheim. His first foray into the national spotlight was when he was playing for Fortuna Düsseldorf. His potential was soon realized and in 1981 he started playing for 1. FC Köln. Later he went to Olympique Marseille. After a moderately successful spell he moved to Bordeaux, before finishing his playing career in Werder Bremen in 1993.

In total, Allofs played in 424 matches in the Federal League, scoring 177 goals, a goalscoring tally he shares with Dieter Müller which ranks him seventh in the alltime goalscorers list. His 71 goals for Fortuna are a club-record for the Düsseldorf team.

Allofs played 56 times internationally for Germany and scored 17 goals. His debut came on October 11, 1978 in Prague against Czechoslovakia in a substitution for Ronald Worm. Allofs was also part of the 1980 team which won the European Championship, in which he became top goalscorer.

In 1979 and 1985 Allofs became top goalscorer in the Bundesliga. Between 1979 and 1991 he won the German Football Association Cup four times, and in 1992 he won the Cup Winners' Cup with Werder Bremen.

In 1999 Allofs worked briefly as the manager and coach of Fortuna Dusseldorf. Since then he has been a member of the board of directors at Werder Bremen and now works there as the manager.
