Klanton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Klanton was the designation given to a local chapter by the white supremacist organization, the Ku Klux Klan.

A Klanton typically consisted of a town or city chapter. A Klanton leader, elected by the membership, went by the title of Exalted Cyclops. The Klanton's meeting place was known as a “Klavern”.

An example of a Klanton was formed in Crab Orchard, West Virginia. Current United States Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat of West Virginia, attained the rank of Exalted Cyclops for organizing the city's Klanton in the 1940s.
