Kitee

Kitee (Kides in Swedish) is a municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 10,024 (2003) and covers an area of 1,141.75 km² of which 276.87 km² (nearly 25%) is water. The population density is 8.8 inhabitants per km².
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Famous people from Kitee are Tuomas Holopainen, Jukka Nevalainen and Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen of the famous symphonic metal band Nightwish, as well as their ex-vocalist Tarja Turunen who was fired from the band via an open letter in October 2005.
