Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman) is a detective on the hunt for his missing niece Naomi. He is aided by Kate McTiernan, who had earlier escaped a serial killer known as "Casanova" and Det. Nick Ruskin (Cary Elwes). "Casanova" is also Naomi's captor, along with over 16 other women reported missing. "Casanova" is a sadomasochist who brutalizes and eventually kills the women by exposure. Cross eventually finds the lair and is reunited with Naomi. A climax and a brawl later, it is revealed that Ruskin is actually "Casanova" and is now angered at Kate for ruining his fantasy and helping Cross. The film ends with Cross shooting Ruskin and telling Kate it will be all right.
