Kisii School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kisii School is a famous and old secondary school in the Gusii or Kisii hills in Kenya. It was started in 1911 by the colonial government. Prominent Kenyans have had their educational thirst quenched in the waters of the school.

[edit] The School

The school has a strong connection to the Musa Nyandusi family which controlled huge territory during the colonial period due to the fact that the family patriarch was a Senior Chief. This was a most powerful position akin to a king answerable only to the colonial authority with minimal supervision and sometimes with brutal actions perpetrated against a mainly illiterate people. The school has produced the likes of Simeon Nyachae, a failed presidential candidate in the 2002 elections in Kenya and many others living and deceased. The school's success in the future might get a big boost from the old boys who are making big waves economically in the West especially those in Houston, Texas where a large congregation of them currently resides. This dream has been in the offing for a while led by 'Nash'Osebe Bogonko and other like-minded alumni. Currently the school is considered a premier learning institution in the country that can give schools of comparable calibre a run for their money in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams as witnessed in 2005 when the school did well despite the cheating accusations levelled against it, a dark mark in its otherwise brilliant academic history.
