User talk:Kirok/Pendant Productions
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kirok,
Did you listen to the latest TWIP? I think if the numbers of downloads per month were in the description on the top of the page, it would be proof of notoriety.
If you add that and try posting it again - we can start the fight over Brendan 00:35, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't mate, no, but the problem is that it is just a matter of degree. Download figures that are impressive are only impressive if people see them - what the Wikipedians are talking about is that the notability needs to come from either mainstream media or from commentators outside Pendant at the very least.
- I run most of the Fan Production stuff on TrekUnited and I've arranged with Jeff, Eric Busby and, hopefully, Jim Caswell from ST: Eras and someone from ST: Unity to take part in a major event on TrekUnited that will include a forum thread, publicity on the TrekUnited NewsDesk, and a Live Chat around the 20th of the month with everyone online and prizes/giveaways. This will be followed by a transcription on the forum, a front page article in HFO and a re-write of this article to include all Trek fan audio groups, splitting them from the ST: Fan productions article they are on right now.
- It will mean reducing the content here, intially i would take out the episode descriptions and see how that looks. However it might mean taking out all the episode references other than, in Pendants' case ST: Defiant.
- This is the first step towards expanding the representation of Fan audio dramas in Wikipedia, once we have this accepted it would lay the ground work for individual articles on the seperate production groups. However just resubmitting the same content will leave us open to exactly the same opposition. I'm confident that material will come to light during the coming event that will give us the notability we need to make this stick as a general article. ... and the only person who is not welcome to contribute is Brynsee! Cheers --Kirok of L'Stok 10:01, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
- This is a more comprehensive listing - ok, it's mostly templates but it'll give you the idea. Unfortunately it is still WAY too big! Even the contents is too big! What we need is some sort of Infobox (see right at the end) similar to the television infobox used by New Voyages. Perhaps we could have one made up as a dedicated audio drama infobox.--Kirok of L'Stok 01:43, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- Found an InfoBox that might be suitable, the Template:Infobox_Radio_Show put it in at the start. For brevity, I've left out | other_names| syndicates| television| presenter| narrated| endtheme| executive_producer| runtime | starring. This will be right wrapped giving a heap of space on the left for information. Along the left hand edge, I'll have the body of the section startimng with a brief description followed by a wikitable that shows the actors and episode list with other info below it.
- It would be good if i could make the Infobox generally smaller than the cast list so that the episode list is not cramped up - took out | audio_format| opentheme| record_location - pretty certain this will be in the country of origin and none originate from professional studios (do they?).
- Questions: Can I change the order of the fields in the InfoBox? Can i leave out or change the names of the fields? is there some way of standardising its width?--Kirok of L'Stok 02:38, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fan audio dramas
Inspired in part by the success of a long-running series of audio adventures produced by Big Finish Productions in the United Kingdom based upon Doctor Who, similar audio series based upon characters and situations from Star Trek have been launched. Unlike the Doctor Who productions — which are produced under license by the rights holders of the Doctor Who property, the BBC — these Star Trek audio series are not similarly licensed by Paramount. It is worth noting, however, that the Doctor Who audios were not initially licensed by the BBC, although this was when they were produced on an amateur rather than a professional basis, as has been the case since 1999.
Cast members record their parts of each script on their personal computers, and send those parts to the director who mixes the dialogue with sound effects to create audioplays. The resultant product is similiar to old time radio dramas, though everything is recorded at home rather than in a professional studio. Unfortunately, this shows in the final quality of the productions. Actors, writers, directors and producers are not paid for their work.

[edit] Crossroads
This series, from Darker Projects, was a spin-off from what was to become The Section 31 Files, at that time called Star Trek-Dark Horizon, and is a crossover venture into the Star Wars universe. In it, the crew of the Federation Runabout Enforcer find themselves trapped in an alternate universe - will they ever find a way back to their own reality? The series currently exists in two incarnations - the first, a two episode arc in which two Star Trek characters found themselves in the Star Wars universe, while the second was an episode of The Section 31 Files, in which the Section 31 starship Nosferatu travels to the Star Wars universe via a dimensional rift. While up to four episodes in the series were originally mooted, no definite production plans are now current.

[edit] Star Trek: Defiant
Pendant Productions originated with the desire to make Defiant although their first production was a Superman serial after its founder and executive producer, Jeffrey Bridges, decided to focus on producing radio serials similar to those of the '30s and '40s but modernized for today's audiences. It has now added original productions and a weekly podcast to their fan based shows.
Star Trek: Defiant originated as a text based story in 1995 and shares some of the same voice talents with the Darker Projects productions. The show is set on the USS Defiant with a new crew after the end of the Deep Space Nine television series. Released on a monthly schedule, the show aims to keep an authentic and honest 'Trek' feel whilst exploring new avenues and ideas in the universe that has existed for over forty years.
The first two episode arcs "Ailing Spirt" and "Wounded Heart" are written and directed by Jeffrey Bridges. The third episode arc "Rejuvenated Core" is written by Jeffrey Bridges and directed by Chris Brittain. The fourth and all subsequent arcs to date are written by Theresa J McGarry and directed by Chris Brittain.
