Kirk Chilas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kirk Chilas (b. June 19, 1989) is an American play write and author of such short one act plays as The Ice Age is Coming, Transmission, and Coney Island Baby which is named after the 1976 Lou Reed album. His work is inspired from the 1950's lifestyle in New York City and the idea of escaping inherited wealth.
The Characters in the work of Kirk Chilas often times do not have names and are simply listed as "Man 1" or "Man 2." Another interesting aspect of Chilas' work, in that nobody in conversation is ever identified by name.
Most of his short plays are simple dialogue concentrating on balance and simplicity as a way to convey a message. Often times this message is one that goes against the main sociological ideas of the upper class, revealing his characters to be drug addicts or hopelessly depressed middle aged men.
