Kirit Shelat

Dr. Kirit Nanubhai Shelat (born 1946) is a public administrator for the government of Gujarat, India. He currently serves as Advisor to Chief Minister Narendrabhai Modi.

He received a Ph.D. in Public Administration, and started his career in public administration by joining Gujarat Administrative Services in 1967. Since then, he has served in various departments with the government of Gujarat. During his career, he has worked at the grass-roots level and has his hand in the formulation of policies for rural and industrial development. He has contributed in developing models for micro-level planning for rural poor families. He has worked as Commissioner, Rural Development, Industries Commissioner, Commissioner for Employment and Training, Commissioner for Disabled Personas, Transport Commissioner, Secretary, Energy Department, Agriculture & Co-operation Department, amongst several other assignments. He has contributed various articles to national and international magazines associated with the field of development. He has written the book "Evaluation of Rural Development" (1987). He has also developed the manuals for Micro Level Planning for Rural Development (1980) and Evaluation of the Rural Development (1982). His latest publication is 'Mapping Development' based on his experiences in Gujarat (May, 2003). The book was also translated into Gujarati in May, 2004.
