"Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love."
Lao-Tzu

Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better the quality of life at the Wikipedia through Kindness and Recognition of Users. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

All too often we get too wrapped up in our own tasks to recognize the hard work and determination of others. This WikiProject aims to correct that injustice, even if only a little bit, by making a conscious effort to acknowledge exceptional effort, skill, and commitment. It is motivated by the belief that a little kindness goes a long way, and in the end results in a better Wikipedia experience for everybody.

[edit] Scope and goals

The goals of this WikiProject are to promote Wikipedia:Civility and WikiLove as follows:

  1. To attract Wikipedians to the cause, and focus the effort for maximum efficiency.
  2. To raise awareness of the positive benefits that a little kindness and recognition can bring.

[edit] How you can help

Random acts of kindness

Anybody can help by making even the smallest gesture of kindness.

  1. Identify any user who has gone unthanked for too long - which is many users - and recognize their efforts.
  2. Make an effort to recognize somebody for a history of fine work, or a specific exceptional effort.
  3. Sign the rolls of the kindness campaign below.
  4. Add a link to this page on your user page, or the the KC user box, and encourage others to join our campaign.
  5. Assess your peer KC members and give them an award if suitable. Perhaps many are signing up the KC because they hope to get an award back as return!

[edit] How to give recognition

A common, but not exclusive, way of recognizing somebody is by giving one of the chronically underused barnstars to somebody deserving; a complete list of the most common awards we use can be found at Wikipedia:Barnstars.

You can also recognise somebody by posting to the WikiProject A nice cup of tea and a sit down.

If you have any other ideas for how to recognize somebody, please share it on our talk page!

[edit] Templates

Here are a couple of templates that will hopefully make it easier to add barnstars and other images to user's talk pages. You do not have to use them, but they're here if you want them.
