Originally from Toronto, Canada and classically trained in music since the age of 8, Paul Mendes (aka Kink) has been musically creative for almost 15 years. With over 10 years experience in electronic music starting in 1993 with his debut release "Freelance Phukup", Kink has worked on various production projects including self producing 5 dance music albums, remixing for a variety of artists across the globe, working on sound design projects and movie scores and rocking dancefloors worldwide. His performance highlights include:
- Two performances at the World Electronic Music Festival in Ontario, Canada
- Resident DJ with NextOffensive Productions in Toronto, Canada
- Co-founder and performer of TekNorth Teknival festival in Ontario, Canada
- Resident DJ/Live Performer/Live Visual Projections with Goodfellaz Productions in Toronto, Canada
- Headlining performer at dozens of raves and clubs across North America
In addition to a formidable live performance career as both a DJ and a live electronic music performer, Paul has also worked as producer on the popular internet radio show “Totally Sweet Radio” featured on www.happyhardcore.com and www.digitallyimported.com, where he produced and floor managed over 100 episodes. He also engineered and produced the annual NextOffensive compilation CD, and has produced tracks with a variety of artists including MC Gobstoppa, DJ Virus and Fiction.
As of 2006, Paul is concentrating on promoting his live performances from his new base in Glasgow, Scotland. Paul is now pleased to offer two varieties of performance under his stage name Kink:
- Live electronic music performances including remixes and original production by Kink.
- DJ mixed sets including selections from Kink’s record collection as well as custom remixes and featured tracks from Kink’s collaborations and production work.
Kink’s style is always eclectic, drawing from a variety of pop culture music references. Adding grit, funk, and dancefloor slamming sounds, Kink transforms and reflects ordinary pop culture and presents it back as something danceable and primal. With a flair for stage performance that stems from his experience performing with heavy rock acts and jazz/funk fusion choirs, Kink brings a theatricality to his performances that enhances the already high energy level of his music.
Looking towards the future, Paul is currently working with Glasgow based visualizations company “Simulacra Simulations” to integrate custom visuals into his live electronic music performances. Further goals include building a live presence in the UK and Europe, and building up his web presence at www.kinkmusic.co.uk
