From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kingswood Players are an Amateur Theatre Group whose performance base is the Kingswood Community Centre, Kingswood, Bristol.

Their rehearsal base is Crofts End Church Hall, Crofts End Road, St George, Bristol.

They were formed in 1980 following an amalgamation of The Downend Dramatic Society and The Romsdal Players.

After an initial period as The Kingswood-Downend Players, they became The Kingswood Players and at this time the Local Authority gave permission for part of the Kingswood coat of arms (a stag) to be used in their original logo.

They present varied productions throughout their season, which include three act Plays of all types, musical productions, Pantomime and Music Hall. Their seasons have included well-established plays as well as premieres of new work by local playwrights.

In 1999, the group were successful in their bid for lottery funding, enabling them to perpetuate Music Hall and continue the traditions of Pantomime.

Adaptations of their musical productions have been toured for charity and business events and more information can be obtained on this from Mrs Sue Lewis at their their publicity office.

They have an annual visit at Christmas to a major hospital. Pantomime characters endeavour to provide some fun, cheer and mayhem, not only to children who are hospitalised during the Christmas period, but also to staff. This has recently included a further summer visit to a specialist children's unit.
