HISTORY

King’s College was founded in 1969 as a British school, open to students of all nationalities. From the outset there was a clear decision not only to provide an English curriculum, but also to establish a school in which students would enjoy the best of British educational traditions. The numbers of pupils studying in the school rose significantly form 70 in 1969 to 500 in just five years. The main school moved in 1978 to its present purpose-built premises in the pleasant residential area of Soto de Viñuelas to the north of Madrid. The first section of the building was opened by the British Ambassador to Spain Sir Anthony Acland, and dedicated by the Papal Nuncio in Spain and the Anglican Bishop in Europe.

FACILITIES

King's college is a modern school which has enough facilities to fulfill the everyday needs of students. Without doubt, the beste resources are two computer laboratories with fully equipped with new generation , Pentium 4 hyperthreading computers and smart boards for lesson times. A recent development has been the introduction of a wireless WIFI network which seeks to promote an "anytime, anywhere" learning through laptops that can be taken virtually anywhere. Another facility worth mentioning is the newly built audotirium, this counts with a seating capacity of 300 people and is equipped with air-conditioning, a high resolution proyector and professional control booth. King's College weakness relies in the sporting facilities. Even though the football pitches hace been recently improoved, the gym still leaves room for improovement. It needs a bigger space and refurbishing to make it more efficient. Also, students are not allowed to enter the gym if it is not in a PE class, this limits considerably the uses of the gym and stops it from becoming a mayor activity for many pupils. The school also obasts a separate area for ballet and contemporany dances and a fully built tatami in which the Judo classes take palce.
