Kingdom is a British television series produced by Parallel Film and Television Productions and Sprout for ITV1. It was created by Simon Wheeler and stars Stephen Fry as Peter Kingdom, a Norfolk-based solicitor who is trying to discover the whereabouts of his deceased brother's body.[1] The series of six one-hour episodes is scheduled to air from April 2007. A second series was commissioned before the first episode was broadcast and is due to be filmed before summer 2007.[2] As of February 2007, distributor Portman Film and Television has sold the series to 14 international networks.[3]

Wheeler describes the characters as being "three families"; Kingdom's immediate relations, his co-workers and the populace of the (fictional) town of Market Shipborough.[1]
- Peter Kingdom (Stephen Fry) — Kingdom is a compassionate and respected solicitor in the town. His brother Simon died before the first episode, and Peter tries to solve the mystery of the whereabouts of his missing body.[4]
- Beatrice Kingdom (Hermione Norris) — Peter's sister has just left rehab and moves in with him.[4]
- Aunt Auriel (Phyllida Law) — Peter's aunt.[4]
- Gloria Millington (Celia Imrie) — The receptionist at the office.[4]
- Lyle Anderson (Karl Davies) — The trainee solicitor at the office.[4]
- Sidney Snell (Tony Slattery) — A local villager and a frequent client of Kingdom's.[4]

The series is written by Alan Whiting and Jeff Povey and directed by Robin Sheppard.[4] It was shot on location in Swaffham in July 2006.[5] A behind-the-scenes special was filmed and is due to be screened on ITV3.[6]

The first series was passed by the BBFC on March 7, 2007, with a 12 rating.[7] It will be released by 2 Entertain Video on May 28, 2007.
