[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad have arrived in the medieval kingdom of Cramalot, and are looking for a wizard named Mervin, whom Peach hopes can help them free her people from Bowser. Just as the group is attacked by some Beezos, Mervin (who resemebles an old, Yiddish man) appears and scares the enemies off. Mervin then uses his crystal ball to explain how Bowser marched in and took over Cramalot Castle.

Mervin goes on about how Mario can be crowned the new king, if he can pull a golden plunger out of the sacred sink in the town square (á la The Sword in the Stone). Mario succeeds, but when Bowser finds out, he steals the plunger from Mario, kidnaps the four heroes, and locks them in a dungeon. Just as the group is about to be killed by the dungeon's death traps, Mervin appears in a puff of smoke and warps them all to a nearby forest.

In the forest, a hand coming out of the water presents Mario with Excalibur, a golden plumbers' snake. The group heads for the castle, and after forcing a nervous Luigi to cross the Trouter-infested moat, he lowers the drawbridge so they can enter. Mario confronts Bowser, and the two of them duel with their newly-acquired weapons. While they duel, the others fight off Koopa Troopas.

In the end, Mario knocks the golden plunger out of Bowser's hand, but he escapes through a warp zone. With Bowser gone, Mervin dubs Mario the new king, but with one catch; he must watch his weight and exercise. Mario, not wanting to change his diet, hands the crown back to Mervin and literally heads for the hills.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • This episode spoofs the Legend of King Arthur.
  • Cramalot is an obvious spoof of Camelot.
  • Mervin is an obvious spoof of Merlin.
  • This is the only SMBSS episode in which Paratroopas appear.
  • The official summary of this episode describes Mervin as "a clumsy magician", but he never shows such a trait in the actual episode.
  • When shown on Yahooligans! TV, commercial fade-outs were inserted in the middle of the episode where they previously had not been. To be more exact, they were inserted before Mervin reveals of Bowser's takeover and after Luigi's trip over the moat. These same commercial fade-outs also appear on the DVD releases.

[edit] Live-Action Segment: "Day of the Orphan"

Mario and Luigi tend to Patty.
Mario and Luigi tend to Patty.

[edit] Synopsis

A girl named Patty (played by Danica McKellar) shows up at the basement, claiming to be an orphan. Mario and Luigi feel sorry for Patty, but they end up spoiling her. Eventually, Patty's parents show up, forcing Patty to confess that she isn't an orphan. They ground Patty "'til the end of the century", but Luigi insists that they all party first, if only because they were about to throw one for Patty.

[edit] Trivia

  • On the DVD boxset, this is only the live-action segment in where the preview trailer for Friday's The Legend of Zelda episode is missing.
