King (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

King was a British New Wave pop band of the mid-eighties from Coventry, led by singer Paul King (born 20 November 1961), famed for his 'cockatoo' haircut and spray painted Doc Marten's Boots. King were preceded by an early incarnation of the band named "The Reluctant Stereotypes" who released an album and three singles in the early 1980s off the back of Coventry's vibrant ska scene. The band released two albums on CBS both produced and mixed by Richard James Burgess. Burgess also played drums on most of Steps in Time. The CBS albums were both certified Gold and produced five hit singles. Paul decided to take a more soulful direction, which resulted in the solo LP of 1987 Joy and the UK Singles Chart minor hit single, "I Know".
