[edit] Taste
The candy itself consists of a wafer cookie, shaped roughly like a hippo. Inside are two pastes; depending on the flavor: in the original one is milk flavored and the other is hazelnut flavored. In the new cocoa flavor, the hazelnut has been replaced by chocolate paste. The bottom of the wafer cookie is dipped in a frosting/meringue mixture and is quite crumbly.
[edit] Trivia
Happy Hippo were made famous by a smash-hit commercial where a CGI-animated Hippo sang The Lion Sleeps Tonight while a CGI dog tried to distract it/catch its attention by dancing to the music in increasingly funny and bizarre ways. It has an unusual name for a biscuit, stemming from the character "Happy Hippo" (a cartoon hippopotamus) created by the french designer André Roche for the Ferrero chocolate hit "Kinder Surprise Eggs".
[edit] Location
Kinder Happy Hippos can be purchased in parts of the US, the UK, Italy and other countries. They are also in Germany, and they have been found in Morocco. In Australia, Kinder Happy Hippos started appearing in petrol stations and have become more popular since, developing somewhat of a cult following amongst many adults.
