Kind of Like Spitting is an indie rock band currently on the Barsuk record label. They formed in 1996 in Portland, Oregon. Led by prolific singer-songwriter Ben Barnett, who has drawn comparisons to Elliott Smith, Mark Eitzel, Billy Bragg, and Robert Pollard.[citation needed]
Over the next decade Kind of Like Spitting gained a strong following, mainly throughout the United States but also internationally. Barnett only ever toured in the US, regularly going alone or doing shows with David J., but during the decade he did manage to put full bands together for tours (although these bands usually fell apart after the tour).
In the UK the track "Birds of a Feather" was picked up and played by John Peel[1] but didn't get regular airplay.
Kind of Like Spitting announced its break-up October 8, 2006 for what would be best described as "personal reasons". Barnett has yet to reveal further musical plans.
