[edit] Mencia
Stop just reverting the entire plaigarism section if you have a problem with the refs in one sentence. That's not the right way to go about it.
Furthermore, while forum discussions aren't appropriate sources for most kinds of statements, when the very thing being claimed is simply that discussion of accusations abound, they're quite appropriate, and they've been crucual in discussions of plaigarism in stand up comedy in the mainstream media. The aspecialthing boards were the source of Louis CK's cries of theft on the part of Dane Cook, which were referenced in Radar Magazine and other articles on the subject. Please be fair in how you handle your edits.Frogacuda 00:55, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] My talk page
I am not near a violation of 3RR. Your adding of this warning to my page is akin to vandalism. The self-removal of warnings, particularly those that are not applicable, from my talk page is not a blockable action. Do not continue reverting my talk page. Thanks. ju66l3r 20:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

- You're knowingly adding content to the Mencia article that was not part of the Herald piece. I don't know how that can be construed as anything else but vandalism, and you revert the article back after I make a counter point. If you want to continue this discussion, you can do it at the Mencia talk page where I added an explanation of why the video can't be used, and copyright owner issues.

[edit] Talk: Mencia...
"Rogan's somewhat known for Fear Factor, I don't think anyone in the general public that doesn't frequent comedy clubs even realizes that he does stand up."
This doesn't sound NPOV --71.192.88.79 08:08, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

- It is POV, which is why its on the talk page and wasn't used to justy any edits that I've made. I never removed the entire Rogan criticism section, but on the talk page I raised a point about how its up for discussion over whether or not Rogan's claims are worth noting. Whenever I've seen a video involving the two where comments are allowed, it seems a lot of people are surprised that Rogan even did stand up. He's never headlined in a large venue, he doesn't seem to have any CDs or DVDs out, he's never performed stand up on late night talk shows, he's never had his own half hour comedy special on HBO or Comedy Central that I know of. So is it wrong to even assume that he's not known as a comic outside of those who go to comedy clubs in Hollywood? In hip hop you see obscure artists talking about well known ones for the sake of generating publicity, that's how 50 Cent's entire career was jumpstarted ("How to Rob"). It would be easier to buy what Rogan was saying if he were as known for comedy as other established comedians. Plus he can't seem to recite more than one actual joke from the last 15 years that Mencia might have taken. KimboSlice 21:02, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Rogan headlines large venues all the time, and he has a DVD and two CDs out. He hasn't reached Chris Rock status or anything, but if you haven't heard of him, you definitely aren't very aware of the comedy scene. Frogacuda 00:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- That's not right, though. Rogan doesn't headline large venues, he's toured underneath bigger comedians, but on his own site he admits to a preference in doing small clubs. He doesn't have an official DVD out, just bootlegs of his performances, and I've only managed to find one CD from 7 years ago. Saying I'm not aware of the comedy scene proves the exact point that I made that the original poster here brought up: "I don't think anyone in the general public that doesn't frequent comedy clubs even realizes that he does stand up". Look up his stand up on youtube.com and most comments are by people admitting that they didn't know that he was a comic. No TV specials, etc, I'm not even making an assessment over whether or not he's funny, just stating the obvious that he's not known as a comic (but rather as a reality show host), that it would be easier to believe it if it was an established comedian making the accusations rather than someone trying to push his upcoming CD. And as far as your recent edits, you're pulling your info from the videos themselves, all of which are copyright violating and none of which appear on a site of the copyright holders. The Mencia wiki article's description of the confrontation video is limited to what is mentioned in the news story on it rather than the video itself. Break, Digg, Youtube, point of view message board posts and nonobjective blogs (including one you posted where the writer calls Mencia a hack) just can't be used as refs. It's why we've also had to remove the Bobby Lee video defending Mencia, until Lee puts it on his own site or someone does a story on it, we can't use it as a reference, so it works both ways. The second an objective and notable news source does a story on any of the videos, feel free to use that, but use what is mentioned in the article rather than what's seen in the video as per wikipedia's rules. If he steals and its notable enough to put in the article, guaranteed someone will interview him about it at some point and you'll have a solid reference. KimboSlice 16:25, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Dude, you just don't know what you're talking about. I've personally seen him back theaters with thousands of people as the sole headline act. He loves doing small clubs because it's an intimate atmosphere, but he does large venues, too. If all you're saying is that he's known more as a sitcom star, a comedy central show host, a game show host, and a UFC commentator than he is for his stage show, then yes, that's true. But he's still a very popular comic. Most people could probably only name 4 or 5 currently working comics, so it's to be expected that some don't know.
- Of course the sites I referenced have a point of view. Every editorial has a point of view by virtue of being an editorial. The goal is to maintain neutrality in the article, and to maintain that the sources are credible in ways relevant to the wiki entry that has referenced them. What comedian accusing another of theft could possibly be said to be completely neutral? The important thing is to balance it and not to jump to conclusions, which I was careful about.Frogacuda 22:07, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
