Kimps

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kimps is a card game that requires four or people to play. The object of Kimps is to say the word "kimps" when your partner has four of a kind in his hand. No verbal communication is allowed in Kimps, only nonverbal signals.

[edit] How To Play

Kimps is played with a standard deck of 52 cards and no jokers. Players must sit diagonally across from their partner. The dealer deals each player 4 cards. He then looks at the card on the bottom of the deck and names the card by its number and removed from the deck. This is called the Dead Card. The dealer then places four cards on the table face up. As soon as the fourth card is placed, the four players immediately begin to exchange the cards in their hand for the cards on the table with the intention of getting four of the same card in their hand. All players are forced at this time to discard cards from their hand that are of the same number as the dead card, or else they shall never achieve a four of a kind. When the players are done excahanging cards for new ones on the table, the four cards left on the table are proclaimed dead and are placed in the same pile as the original dead card. Four new cards are then dealt, and once again, as soon as the fourth card is placed on the table, players immediately begin to exchange their cards.

[edit] Achieving Kimps

The rounds contiue until a player gets four of a kind in their hand. However, they are not allowed to verbally tell their partner they have four of a kind (kimps), but they must instead use a nonverbal prearranged signal. The partners may decide, for example, before the match that when one of them has kimps, they will wink. Then, in the game, when one of them winks, the other will call out "Kimps!". The game then stops and the partners get a point. If a team is able to determine that their rival team has kimps, they can say "Stop: Kimps!" or "Cut". If the other team indeed has kimps, then the team who stopped the game gets a point. If the other team does not have kimps, then a point is taken away from the team that called "Stop: Kimps!" Two players on the same team may also have kimps at the same time. If they do, this team can call, "Double Kimps!" and get two points instead of one. After kimps, stop kimps, or double kimps has been called, the deck is reshuffled and all the dead cards are added back to the deck. Players then begin a new round with a new hand. The game ends when a predetermined score limit is reached.
