Kilve Court

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kilve Court Residential Education Centre is located in the village of Kilve in Somerset. It runs numerous courses throughout the year for individuals and school groups, including Activity Courses set in the Centre's extensive grounds and Enrichment Courses, designed to help gifted and talented children to develop their skills in subjects such as Art, Drama, English and Maths.

Kilve Court is one of the few centres in the country to run instructive Creative Writing for ages up to and including 17, primarily directed by writers Beth Webb and Colin Macfarlane. However, as of 2006, Beth has been reducing the number of courses she runs in order to concentrate on writing her Star Dancer series of novels.

[edit] Trivia

The Kilvites, a group of young writers whose first anthology book, Thoughts from Tomorrow's Yesterday, was released in 2005, almost all first met whilst on Kilve courses.

The Kilvers, (Music Types (Build a Musical Course attenders)) sing regularly at dinnertime and are frequently threatened to be sent home because of this.

The door at the top of the old block, which doesn't open, allegedly leads to a room of dead bodies. Although this isn't true because if you go to the outside of the old block you can see the other side of the door on the side of the house and a space where a room should be. This is because there really was a terrible accident in this room and the room had to be removed (although some may believe that the room was removed because of "room tax" during WW2, in which you had to pay for each room you had on your house, that was made up by certain Kilvers to stop others from being afraid of ghosts around the site (of which there are many)).

Some new reincarnation of Bluebeard may or may not be hidden in the cellar.

The cheese salad is probably poisoned, but there is a Kilver tradition of clapping with your index and middle fingers of each hand whenever this phrase is said. This tradition was started by Ewan Gibb, for reasons unbeknownst to many, including Mr. Gibb.
