[edit] Plot Synopsis

Spanish director Laura Mañá's (Sexo por compasión) second feature is a chilling foray into the horrifically demented territory of the psychological thriller. Psychiatrist Laura (Goya Toledo, Amores Perros) wakes up in a basement bound to a chair, forced to watch the video confession of a man dispassionately detailing his banal daily life and horrific crimes. This is her captor, Ramon (Darío Grandinetti, Talk to Her), a seemingly ordinary man who leads a dark double life. He now engages the doctor in a terrible game to be played out over the course of one night: if she wins, her gag will be removed and she will be granted one phone call, but if she loses the consequences will be truly dire. With a nonlinear plot that continually introduces new elements, former actress Mana keeps audiences guessing until the end. The director teams up here with well-known cinematographer Xavi Gimenez, who achieved the look of many of Spain's top-shelf fare, including The Nameless, The Machinist, and Darkness (2002 film).
