Killen, County Tyrone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Killen is a small village in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, several miles south west of Castlederg on the road leading south over Scraghy Mountain towards County Fermanagh. A short distance to the west lies County Donegal, in the Republic of Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 231 people. It lies within the Strabane District Council area.

The village lies within the Derg Valley. The efforts of the local community in enhancing the investment potential within the area with the transformation of the old Killen Creamery into a community centre and enterprise centre, is indicative of the spirit of civic pride in existence throughout the district where such projects are commonplace.

Killen Orange Lodge was founded in 1829.
