Killaloe, County Clare

Killaloe is a town in east County Clare, Republic of Ireland, situated in the midwest of Ireland. The village is on the south end of Lough Derg, while the settlement spreads across the River Shannon, with the County Tipperary side known as Ballina. The surrounding area is popular for hill-walking.
The population of the Killaloe Electoral Division in the 2006 census was 1,597.[1] The Killaloe Electoral Area is one of six such areas in County Clare, and returns four members to Clare County Council.[2]
The diocese of Killaloe (q.v.) is the second largest diocese in Ireland.
The University of Limerick has its outdoor pursuits centre near Killaloe, on the shore of the lake.
Killaloe Radio broadcast to Killaloe and Ballina for a number of years but disappeared from the airwaves in early 2007.

Killaloe was the birthplace of Ireland's famous High King, Brian Boru. He ruled from Kincora, which is believed to have been in modern day Killaloe.
Sean Bloice, lottery winner, entrepreneur, and multi-millionaire, spends a large proportion of his time in Killaloe. With fellow entrepreneur and business partner, Nial Platinum, he is often seen cruising the Shannon on his 50m mega yacht. Sean Bloice generated large amounts of wealth through his tampon vending-machine empire he built up during the late 90s.
