Kilfinane (Cill Fhíonáin in Irish) is a small farming/drinking town in southeast County Limerick, Ireland. The Town's name comes from the Irish words "Cill" (church) and "Fhíonáin" (Finian), making its meaning "Church of Saint Finian. Kilfinane is located approximately 40 km southeast of Limerick, and approximately 70 km north-northwest of Cork. The town has a population of approximately 750 people. A very interesting fact is that if one divides the number of pubs in the town by the number of adults (those legally entitled to drink alcohol), one must come to the conclusion that the town must be populated by raging alcoholics in order for the licenced premises to stay in business!

[edit] Economy

Kilfinanes chief exports are:

Timmy Moloneys fine modified vehicles, Brid Sheedys' great gossip and fine produce and Pat Shangers fat youngfellows and superb darts teams

Kilfinane is a vibrant and thriving economy with numerous industries such as flower growing, lampin' maggots and damming Powers every summer. However it is felt that the loss of the bank has had a negative impact on this once megolith of economic activity. In the great tradition of Irish protests there was a hunger strike spearheaded by the infamous Terry "Guevara" Lynch to try and save the bank but this campaign soon ran out of steam when the brave bunch were spotted eating breakfast rolls shortly after commencing.

At an elevation of over 150 metres, Kilfinane is the highest town in County Limerick. It is surrounded on three sides by the Ballyhoura Mountains, and on the fourth side is the "Golden Vale" region that runs through Counties Limerick, Cork, and Tipperary. Unfortunately Kilfinane borders the small desolate parish known as Glenroe. Despite great efforts over the years nothing tangible can be done about this problem so it is proposed in the near future to develop a security perimeter in order to keep the inbred, agricultural inhabitants of this terrible place out of Kilfinane.
