Kildare County Council is the local authority for County Kildare, founded by the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898 along with the other councils of Ireland. It covers the whole of County Kildare, although three towns - Leixlip, Naas and Athy - have separate Town Councils under the Local Government Act 2001.
[edit] Elections
For electoral purposes, 6 electoral areas exist - the Athy, Celbridge, Clane, Kildare, Leixlip and Naas Electoral Areas. The council is controlled by a Fine Gael/Labour Party/Green Party coalition along with the independent councillors Gerry McDonagh and Mary Glennon. The current mayor is Fionnuala Dukes of Fine Gael, with Mary Glennon as deputy. Previous mayors in the current session have included John McGinley of the Labour Party.
Elections are by Single Transferrable Vote.
[edit] 2004 Elections
Only councillors who successfully obtained a seat are listed. The title of Councillor indicates a sitting councillor.
