[edit] Allegations of Race Fixing
In the spring of 2004 the News of the World newspaper made allegations of race fixing against him, and he was due to appear before the Jockey Club later in the year to answer the allegations when on 1 September 2004 he was one of three jockeys arrested as part of a police investigation into the alleged fixing of over 80 races in the previous two years. On 15 December 2004 the Jockey Club discontinued its investigation into the allegations. He will be joined by two other racehorse jockeys at the Old Bailey Fallon was not at the two-hour hearing as defendants were not obliged to attend. Fallon, 41, Fergal Lynch, 28, Darren Williams, 27, along with Miles Rodgers, 37, Philip Sherkle, 38, and Shaun Lynch, 37, deny the allegations against them. They are charged with conspiracy to defraud between December 2002 and September 2004, by interfering with the running of horses to ensure they lost races, defrauding punters.
On July 3, 2006, Fallon was charged along with 7 other people for conspiring to defraud the internet betting exchange Betfair. Fallon was one of 28 people answering bail at Bishopsgate police station in the City of London in connection with the inquiry. In a released police statement, he was described as being charged with "offences relating to allegations of fixing the outcome of horse races between December 1, 2002, and September 2, 2004, and money laundering". He was amongst three jockeys charged, along with Darren Williams and Fergal Lynch, all of whom had their licences suspended.
On 7 July 2006, Fallon lost an appeal against his revoked jockey licence, and was banned from riding in Great Britain until his trial for "allegations of race fixing" is over.
On 17 July, Fallon appeared in the Magistrate's Court to answer bail. He was released on unconditional bail. His bid to have the High Court grant an injunction to permit him to race failed on July 27, 2006.[1] His retaining stable in Tipperary, Ireland has made no serious comment for the moment but it is understood that they are anxious on two fronts, firstly that the integrity of racing must be upheld and secondly that a person is innocent until proven otherwise. In the meantime, Fallon is fully engaged in the Irish domestic scene while his lawyers work on his behalf in the English Courts.
On the 29th November 2006 French racing authority France Galop have suspended jockey Kieren Fallon for six months after testing positive for a prohibited substance. The 41-year-old six-times champion jockey tested positive for a metabolite of a banned substance.
The ban, which is likely to be applied worldwide, is to begin on 7 December.
Fallon is currently banned from riding in Britain after being charged with conspiracy to defraud by the City of London Police.
The ban results from a sample given by the Irishman when he rode Ivan Denisovich in the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly on 9 July and is likely to be reciprocated internationally.
"We were informed by France Galop this afternoon that Kieren had tested positive for a prohibited substance," said Denis Egan, chief executive of the Irish Turf Club.
"The stewards need to meet first but I would imagine he will be banned from riding in Ireland as well.
