Kids in Glass Houses are a five-piece powerpop rock band from South Wales.

Described by Kerrang! as "a breath of fresh air on the post-hardcore scene", Kids in Glass Houses are one of South Wales' most hotly-tipped bands. They consolidated their reputation during 2006 with a series of high-profile support slots, playing alongside Lostprophets and The Blackout. 2007 has so far seen them support both Hundred Reasons and 30 Seconds To Mars. In the past, they have also shared the stage with Funeral for a Friend and The Used on the Cardiff leg of the Taste of Chaos 2005 UK tour.

[edit] Notability & Trivia

  • The band's name is inspired by a lyric in Glassjaw song 'Tip Your Bartender'. The line is "not throwing stones at you anymore".
  • The band have been praised by critics as one of the UK's most promising bands and have received positive reviews in established magazines such as Rock Sound and Kerrang!.
  • The band have received airplay on BBC Radio 1 from DJ's Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq and Daniel P Carter.
  • In a television interview Lostprophets vocalist Ian Watkins claimed that 'relatively unknown bands such as Kids in Glass Houses are a lot better than a lot of known bands out there.'
  • Iain and Shay both have the 'iconic' flamingo design - from the band's t-shirts - tattooed on their legs.
  • Kids in Glass Houses featured in the January 2007 issue of Kerrang in "The Hottest New Bands On The Planet!" section which also featured bands such as Enter Shikari, The Blackout, I Am Ghost and Cute Is What We Aim For.
  • Kids in Glass Houses are known for their humour through comically covering Ashlee Simpson's 'La La' and combining it with Glassjaw's 'Pretty Lush', the band's favourite band. They also covered Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' with the singer often comically, drunkenly forgetting the lyrics and stalling until the chorus. At Halloween 2006 the band covered Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' while dressed up as characters from the song's famous music video. Most of these covers can be found on YouTube.
  • This year the band will open up the second day of the Give It a Name festival playing with the likes of Brand New, All American Rejects, New Found Glory and Motion City Soundtrack.
  • Guitarist Iain was once a member of fellow welshmen, Dopamine, he played on the "A Lesson In Dying" EP as well as the "Auditioning An Escape Plan" and "Experiments With The Truth" albums.

[edit] Other projects

Side projects the band have been involved with include:

  • Dirty Girls (Faint inspired Electro-dance-rock-pop with Aled and Shay with Gethin Pearson of 'Gethin Pearson and The Scenery')
  • Bearfight! (Swing Kids-ish noisy hardcore with Aled, Iain and Phil).
  • Phil and Joel also provide backing vocals on The Blackout's I'm A Riot, You're A F**king Riot from the Blackout! The Blackout! The Blackout! EP.
  • Aled is also one half of The Graduates, an acoustic folk band.
