Kidd Brewer Stadium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kidd Brewer Stadium is Appalachian State University's (ASU) 16,650-seat multi-purpose stadium in Boone, North Carolina. It opened in 1962 and stands 3,333 feet above sea level, the highest collegiate football stadium east of the Mississippi River. The facility was the first in North and South Carolina to install artificial turf in 1970. Though the stadium has 16,650 seats, due to lawn and standing room space, Kidd Brewer regularly holds 20,000+ for home games.

Nicknamed “The Rock”, Kidd Brewer Stadium is the home of the 2005 Division I-AA and 2006 Division I FCS Football National Champion, Appalachian State University Mountaineers. It's also the home of Appalachian's field hockey, and track and field teams.

Besides the elevation, "The Rock" gives the Mountaineers football team a home field advantage, because of deafening noise of the crowd and the 300 member Marching Mountaineers band.

As of December 6, 2006, Appalachian boasts a 181-58-5 record alltime at Kidd Brewer Stadium, including an 27-game home winning streak that it carries into the 2007 season. The Mountaineers last dropped a home contest on November 30, 2002 when it fell to No. 7 Maine 14-13 in the first round of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. ASU's last regular-season home loss dates all the way back to October 26, 2002, when it fell 26-19 to No. 25 Wofford. The Apps haven’t lost to an unranked opponent in Boone since a 26-23 overtime setback to VMI on November 19, 1994.

The facility previously hosted Appalachians's soccer teams before they moved to ASU Soccer Stadium in 2006.
