Kid Dracula is a pair of video game titles by Konami released during the early 90s. There were only two releases in the series: one for the Famicom and one later for the Game Boy. Only the Game Boy version made it to North America. It is considered a sequel to the Famicom story.
In Japan, the full titles of the games are Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun (悪魔城すぺしゃる ぼくドラキュラくん Akumajō Supesharu: Boku Dorakyura-kun?, lit. "Demon Castle Special: I'm Kid Dracula"). The Game Boy version was released in North America as simply Kid Dracula.
Kid Dracula is half human-half vampire, as his mother was a mortal. Although he loved his father, he soon learned that spreading his father's evil was wrong. Even as a youngster, he fought for good against evil monsters who threatened humans. Even then he knew how to use a Ball of Destruction. Since Kid Dracula is a vampire, he has the ability to turn into a bat and fly.
[edit] Storyline
The story of Kid Dracula is relatively simple. The self-proclaimed Demon King, Kid Dracula, has awoken from a long sleep, only to discover that the evil dinosaur-like creature Garamoth has challenged him. Swiping his father's cape, it is then up to Kid Dracula himself to set out on the adventure to destroy the monster.
[edit] Connections with Castlevania
The Japanese name of the series is Akumajō Dracula, which is also the name used in most of the Castlevania games in Japan, suggesting a relationship between the two. Many of the backgrounds in the game's first level are very similar to those found in Castlevania games. The music used in the first level of both the Famicom and Game Boy games, "Go! Go! At The Castle", is also a happy remix of the first-level music from Castlevania III, called "Beginning".
Also, the game's main antagonist, Garamoth, later appeared as a boss in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. In Symphony, he dropped his cartoonish appearance and was named Galamoth (due to conflicting Japanese-English transliterations—a common part of the Engrish effect).
It should be noted that the series takes on a more comedic tone which is very much unlike the very serious tone that the Castlevania series takes.
[edit] Other appearances
Kid Dracula has also made an appearance in the Super Famicom version of Gokujō Parodius! ~Kako no Eikō o Motomete~ as selectable character. He is also a hidden selectable character in the game's sequel, Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius: forever with me, which is the PlayStation and Sega Saturn version of the Super Famicom game, Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius .
