Mack enjoys getting himself far into an adventure story but with the cost of falling off the hammock. He tells Spencer, the butler, how he wishes he could be with his father on the search for the crown of the gods, the Corona Aurora. Spencer simply tells him that it does not exist.

Meanwhile, after ten years of searching, billionaire/adventurer Andrew Hartford finally manages to find the crown. But in doing so, he has awoken great evil from other worlds. The guardian of the crown appears and informs Hartford of what he has done and tells him what he must now do...

Six months later, Andrew recruits four people with great talent starting with Dax, a professional stuntman in Hollywood, California. Andrew is a fan of Dax. Next to receive Andrew Hartford's invitation is Ronny, who had just won her 7th race car championship in a row at the Italian Grand Prix. In Brazil, On a mission to recover stolen Corinthian diamonds for a museum, Will discovers a message from Andrew Hartford instead. Andrew had hired Will to break into his vault in order to test his skills. At Wickerbridge University of Technology in London, Rose discovers her invite after deactivating one of her robots that her professor caused to go out of control. Andrew read her papers on Advanced Nuclear Robotic Science and was very impressed.

The selected four meet inside Andrew's mansion. Andrew makes Mack leave the room before he begins his meeting. He explains to them what has happened and that the universe needs their help. Mack and Spencer listen from another room through an air vent. He plays a video recorded three days ago showing that evil has arrived on Earth, Flurious and Moltor who are after the Corona Aurora crown which has power over the universe. Andrew then begins the story, "In a galaxy on the other side of the universe there were two brothers, Moltor and..." Then Rose takes over, "Moltor and Flurious, who tried to steal the Corona Aurora but the crown was so powerful it cursed them, changed their appearance and sent them off to distant planets imprisoning them in their own elements." Rose took a year of Ancient Universal Legends at Harvard. Andrew finishes the story and tells them that in order to stop anyone from getting the power again, the guardian took the five jewels from the crown and scattered them on a distant uninhabited planet. That planet, those many millennia ago, was Earth. He shows them the crown in hopes that they would believe the story and tells them that he will turn them into power rangers. As the four are about to leave, the guardian appears and helps convince them that it's all true. The guardian is to weak to go after it himself.

Flurious and his foot soldiers move into an ice cave, home to a Yeti named Norg. Inside a volcano, Moltor's lair, Moltor's small Lava Pit reveals to him the location of the crown, Andrew's mansion. Moltor sends his henchmen, the Lava Lizards, to retrieve the crown.

Several hundred feet below the mansion, the four have accepted Andrew's offer and are given genetic powers by a DNA Re-sequencer, a Hartford industries design. Their bodies' physical and mental capabilities are enhanced. Andrew prepares to join the four and become the red ranger but before he has the chance to change his DNA, Mack finds the base. Mack tells his father that he wants to help and become a ranger too.

The four wait outside the mansion while Mack and Andrew have a chat. Their new genetic powers begin to show as Will hears then sees something from a far distance. They are attacked by Lava Lizards. Ronny uses super speed, Dax Super Jumps, and Rose becomes Invisible. Andrew tells Mack that he can't help. Spencer informs Andrew that they are under attack. Flurious sends his foot soldiers, the Chillers, after the crown. Spencer gathers the team and they all, even Mack, go for a ride to get away from the Lava Lizards. But unfortunately their track is blocked by the Chillers. Andrew gives the four their morphers, the Overdrive Trackers. The four morph without Andrew. Mack still wants to help but Andrew tells him no. Andrew goes to join his team but is captured by the Lava Lizards and drops his Overdrive Tracker. Mack takes the Tracker and morphs into action. The Chillers and Lava Lizards are destroyed.

Andrew is attacked by Moltor but saved by Mack(red). Three remaining Lava Lizards managed to get the crown from Spencer. Moltor leaves with the crown but first causes lava to flow through the city below to keep them from going after him...
