Kiana (Bratz character)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kiana is a Bratz character who debuted in the Wild Wild West collection. She was intended to be of Native American heritage, and featured black hair with deep tan skin. She became popular with the Wild Wild West collection and was rumoured to appear in the Rodeo collection, but she was replaced by the new Bratz character Sorya.

Wild Wild West is the only collection which features Kiana, because according to Mattel, MGA Entertainment's competitor, she infringes upon their trademarked doll name. See Kiana's discontinuation below.

[edit] Kiana's discontinuation

Kiana is the only Bratz girl to have been officially discontinued. In May 2006 legal issues forced the company to remove Kiana from the Bratz Pack. Mattel, Inc. claimed that they owned a trademark to the name Kianna with their Teen Trends doll line and that MGA Entertainment's Bratz Wild Wild West Kiana doll infringed upon their trademark. Despite both dolls' names having slightly different spellings and despite both dolls having completely different personalities (e.g. Teen Trends Kianna's dream is to be a rockstar, and the Bratz Kiana's dream is to be a cowgirl), Mattel insisted that both names were the same. MGA Entertainment thus ceased further usage of the name "Kiana" and will not produce any more Bratz dolls bearing the name.

Meygan was to be named as Kayla, but she has been renamed due to the trademark Mattel held. On 2003, she was also discontinued, however not because of the infringement, but because she wasn't been sold very well. Bratz fans begged MGA to bring her back, which they did with the Wildlife Saatfari Collection. The fans are hoping for Kiana's return, however, it is said to be discontinued for good.
